East Bay Regional Park District is the land manager of Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Shoreline, will serve as a stakeholder and advise on designs and plan. San Francisco Estuary Institute will help develop science-supported nature-based adaptation options that are appropriate for the site and serve as technical advisors for Ninth Root. This technical assistance is included with the funding from BayCAN. Save The Bay will provide information on the site’s history of native and invasive plant cover and assist with developing the habitat restoration planting palette based on their past vegetation monitoring reports of the site.

The Sacred Spaces Planning Project, consists of collecting planning data, holding community engagement workshops, and creating plans for habitat and public access enhancements along the Damon Marsh Trail, including a series of climate-resilient and culturally relevant wellness zones at Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Shoreline. The project will include: conducting a site assessment; conducting community engagement; creating plans for erosion control, invasive species removal, native planting, interpretive art, and site monitoring; and creating conceptual designs for habitat and public access enhancements along the Damon Marsh Trail. This planning project will result in 30% designs and plans for habitat enhancement and a series of five climate-resilient and culturally relevant wellness zones along the Damon Marsh Trail at Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Shoreline in East Oakland.
