The San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Executive Officer, Amy Hutzel.
Ms. Hutzel has been appointed as Executive Officer of the State Coastal Conservancy, which provides Executive Officer services to the Restoration Authority under a Joint Powers Agreement.
Ms. Hutzel previously served as the Interim Executive Officer for the Restoration Authority and Deputy Executive Officer for the State Coastal Conservancy. She has been with the Conservancy for over twenty years, during which she has been instrumental in many key Bay restoration projects. She helped to establish the Restoration Authority and worked with the Authority Board and many stakeholders to write Measure AA, the Authority’s funding measure that passed by over 70% among Bay Area voters in 2016. After passage of Measure AA, she led the development of the Bay Restoration Regulatory Integration Team (BRRIT), a novel approach to accelerating the permitting process for restoration projects.
“The San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority is uniquely positioned to support both large-scale bayshore restoration projects and innovative pilot projects to prepare our Bay for future challenges.” said Ms. Hutzel, “Having been with the Restoration Authority since its inception, I know the incredible impact this agency is making. I’m honored and excited to serve as Executive Officer as we continue to fund critical restoration projects, reduce permitting delays, and expand our focus on community engagement and environmental justice.”
Each year, the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority allocates approximately $25 million raised by the Measure AA parcel tax to shoreline projects that will protect, restore, and enhance San Francisco Bay, and connect communities to the bayshore.
Ms. Hutzel has served as Deputy Executive Officer, Bay Area Program Manager, and Project Manager at the State Coastal Conservancy. Prior to joining the Conservancy, she worked at Save The Bay and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
As Executive Officer, she will work closely with the Board and Committees of the Restoration Authority, provide leadership to the State Coastal Conservancy and Metropolitan Transportation Commission employees that staff the Restoration Authority, and support a growing roster of shoreline restoration projects in the nine counties of the Bay Area. Amy lives with her husband and two children in San Francisco.
