Mycelium Youth Network

Funds went to Huichica Creek Riparian and Salt Marsh Restoration Project and Mycelium Youth Network

12/5/25 - SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Today, the Governing Board of the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority approved two grants, totaling $1.3 million, for shoreline restoration in the San Francisco Bay.  The two projects were:

  •  Huichica Creek Riparian and Salt Marsh Restoration Project
A grant of up to $1,000,000 to Napa County Resource Conservation District to conduct community engagement and to prepare plans, designs, environmental review documents, and permit applications for habitat restoration on approximately 70 acres of land surrounding and including the lower portion of Huichica Creek in the Carneros region of Napa County.
  • Community Grant: Community Action and Shoreline Restoration through Storytelling
A grant of up to $300,000 through the Community Grants Program to Mycelium Youth Network to implement the Community Activation and Shoreline Restoration Through Storytelling Project, which consists of: (1) providing a 6-month paid internship to approximately 32 Oakland youth to empower and educate them on shoreline and climate justice issues through storytelling; (2) conducting shoreline habitat restoration and enhancement in Alameda and Santa Clara Counties; and (3) hosting a series of community events that will engage the public on shoreline restoration activities, storytelling, and role-playing games. This is the Authority's second grant to Mycelium Youth Network for this project. It is funded through the Authority's Community Grants Program, which aims to improve equity in the Authority's grantmaking.

Funding for both projects comes from 2016's Measure AA parcel tax. The measure proposed a 20-year, $12 parcel tax to raise approximately $25 million annually, or $500 million over twenty years, to fund restoration projects in the Bay. It passed with 70% approval across the region and went into effect in 2017.
