Call for BRRIT Projects

Palo Alto Baylands Jitze Couperus

Please submit projects by July 2

The San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority is requesting submittal of multi-benefit wetland restoration projects for consideration and possible addition to the Bay Restoration Regulatory Integration Team’s (BRRIT’s) priority project list.

The BRRIT is a team of dedicated, funded staff from the six state and federal regulatory agencies with jurisdiction over wetlands restoration projects in San Francisco Bay:

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
  • NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service
  • San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board
  • California Department of Fish and Wildlife
  • San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission

The BRRIT is an effort to provide an efficient permitting process for multi-benefit wetland restoration projects and associated flood management and public access infrastructure in San Francisco Bay by dedicating agency representatives to work as a team to review project information and permit applications.

We are currently soliciting for additional projects to utilize the BRRIT permitting process during the second half of calendar year 2020. Please do not submit projects that do not need BRRIT services during the second half of 2020. Email solicitations will occur in the future on a regular basis to continue to solicit new projects.

Eligible projects must be ready for pre-application technical assistance or permit application review by the BRRIT between July and December of 2020. Pre-application technical assistance could range from an initial stand-alone meeting with the BRRIT to seek feedback on an initial project idea to the two-step pre-application process described in this document. Projects ready for permit application review should have already conducted pre-application technical assistance with regulatory agencies and addressed any significant issues that would prevent permit approval. The priority project list will be updated on a regular basis.

Projects listed in EcoAtlas as “San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority (Eligible)” may be submitted to be considered for inclusion on the priority project list for BRRIT review by emailing BRRIT@sfbayrestore.org by July 2, 2020.

Please email the name of your project as it appears in EcoAtlas and the general schedule for pre-application technical assistance and/or permit application review by the BRRIT. Projects must be submitted by the primary project proponent(s). If your project is not yet in EcoAtlas, please use the Project Tracker tool to add it by July 2 and Authority staff will determine eligibility for San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority funds.

You do not need to resubmit if your project is already on the BRRIT priority project list, but feel free to email BRRIT@sfbayrestore.org in order to confirm that your project is on the list.

Authority staff develop the priority project list in coordination with the BRRIT agencies, taking into account the workload capacity of the BRRIT. Authority staff may contact you for additional project information to aid in development of the priority project list. We encourage you to take advantage of BRRIT to help advance multi-benefit restoration projects in San Francisco Bay. For more information, visit the BRRIT webpage. Please email BRRIT@sfbayrestore.org if there are any questions.
