Restoration Authority Awards $28 million in Grant Funds

GB Members Peskin, Pine, and Hahn

Funding went to two projects

12/13/24 - The Governing Board of the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority authorized funding totaling $27,990,000 for two projects at its meeting today. The projects were:

  • $2,990,000 to the Aquatic Science Center to implement the Wetland Regional Monitoring Program’s Monitoring Plan, consisting of collecting, analyzing, managing, and sharing wetlands data; developing additional standard operating procedures; and engaging the public, interested parties and groups, and regulatory agencies in the San Francisco Bay region for three years.
  • $25,000,000 to the Trust for Public Land (TPL) to acquire 430 acres of Newark Baylands (Area 4) for the protection and restoration of habitat, public access, the potential creation of an interpretive visitor center, and to the extent compatible with those purposes: education, research, and Native American tribal cultural uses, along the shoreline of San Francisco Bay in Newark.

The Authority also said a fond farewell to our four outgoing Governing Board members, Chair Dave Pine, Susan Gorin, Aaron Peskin, and Sophie Hahn.  The Authority thanks them for the dedicated service to restoring the Bay.  New Governing Board members will be appointed by the Association of Bay Area Governments.
